SOLID REACTION BETWEEN PRESSLESS SINTERED Si_3N_4 SUBSTRATE AND Ti-DEPOSITED FILM

The chemical reaction at solid state between the pressless sintered Si_3N_4 substrate and Ti-de- posited film has been studied by X-ray diffraction analysis.The reaction all depends upon the temperature.It seems no reaction below 973 K:Ti_2N and Ti_5Si_3 form from 1073 to 1123 K: TiN and Ti_5Si_3 form at 1173 K,TiN and Ti_5Si_4 form at 1273 K;while the titanium film di- minishes completely.The lattice parameter of Si_3N_4 is unchanging thrioughout postannealing. This implies that the Ti atoms never dissolve into the Si_2N_4 lattice.

Direct Comparison between Tensile Strength and Flexural Strength of Ceramic/Metal Brazing Joint

A design of the sandwich joint,steel/ ceramic/steel,was made for direct comparison be- tween tensile and flexural strength of ceramic/metal joint.The flexural strength is about twice as high as the tensile strength for the same joint.The results also showed that the flexural test is more excellent than tensile test for joint with a high interracial bond strength.

Apparent Active Adsorption Force at a Solid-Liquid Interface with Active Adsorption

The paper presents a new relationship between the three surface tensions on the solid-liquid-vapor interface, γ_(sl)-γ_(sv)+γ_(lv)cosθ=βin order to understand the wetting on the liquid-solid interface in the case of active adsorption.The authors suggest a new force“apparent active adsorption force”βto take part in the balance at the three interface lines of contact in the solid-liquid-vapor phases,its dimen- sion isβ=Σα_iRT(Γ_i~(sl)-Γ_i~(sv)+Γ_i~(lv)cosθ),and its direction is dependent on the sign of β,whenβis a positive, the direction is agree with surface tension of the sol- id-vapor interface γ and vice versa.
